Party food is the only thing that we don’t provide so here is some advice and free tips to help you along. Keeping it simple is the best option. Birthday parties for children are not the place to showcase your cookery masterpieces or to practice that new recipe you have just read about. You will be catering for a variety of tastes, regardless of the age of the children, so it’s usually best to cater to the majority and serve something traditional that is easy to prepare.
Most parents want to be left stress free during the party to actually enjoy it themselves so doing the preparation the night before and not getting the cake at the last minute is the best option to go for.
You should have some party food but food is a lower priority for the kids than playing games and having fun. . Finger foods are much more child friendly and practical than a child balancing a plate of food on their laps. Younger kids are also likely to eat more if they can come and go to the food table.
As an alternative idea for the food, why not have a pizza themed party. This is ideal for an older child’s birthday party where it is being held at home. It is a great idea if the party is going to be a small one. At the start of the party whilst the magician / entertainer is setting up get all the children together. Beforehand you have placed all the usual pizza fillings in little bowls on a table. Give each child the base to put their desired fillings on. They often make smiley faces with the sauce. Make sure you know which belongs to which child. These are then put in the oven whilst the start of the entertainment is happening and then when it is time for the food, the pizzas are ready for them to eat.
If you are on a tight budget then you don’t have to splash out on loads of food. Popcorn is a good example of low cost food, this can be bought in bulk very cheaply and you can also add various coloured sauces to it to make it even more desireable for the children at the birthday party.
Decorating cakes with a funny face using smarties or similar will make sure that they are eaten.
Sadly a large amount of food can sometimes go to waste. Ideally look to providing lots of drinks for the children in an easily disposable way. Children always go for quick finger food at parties and they like fun colourful food.
It’s no use worrying yourself silly – this is just a kid’s party! Take your time as your children are only young once!
Now that you have got the food organised it’s time to book a children’s entertainer who will do everything else to keep the kids fully entertained like the magic show, balloon modelling, music and games.
